In Ghana and across the globe, a once-overlooked root vegetable is quietly making headlines in the health and wellness world. Beetroot, known for its deep red hue and earthy flavor, is quickly becoming a superfood staple for young people seeking natural ways to stay healthy.

I started drinking beetroot juice every morning, when my fitness trainer recommended it to me, since than my energy level has shot up “It’s now a must-have in my fridge.”

When I ask about beetroot from my nutritionist  he also explains to me that, “Just half a cup of cooked beetroot a few times a week can make a real difference. It’s rich in folate, iron, fiber, and vitamin C all essential nutrients for everyday health.”

Still, many Ghanaians are unfamiliar with its benefits. Market sellers often report that beetroots go unsold due to low public demand. But that trend is changing, thanks to the rise of health influencers.

Just a cup can make the magic

On TikTok, Ghanaian content creator @NaturallyNaa is winning hearts with her simple and affordable beetroot juice recipes, some of which have gone viral.

Beetroot is rich in nitrates, which the body converts into nitric oxide a compound that helps lower blood pressure, increase stamina, and support heart health. With cardiovascular disease being a leading cause of death in Ghana, experts say beetroot may offer a simple but effective dietary intervention.

Beetroot may not be flashy but it’s definitely powerful. Next time you walk through your local market, you might want to stop and pick up this natural remedy for a healthier life.
