While condoms remain one of the most effective tools for preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies, some men are reporting a range of negative side effects associated with their use.
Health experts have noted growing complaints around allergic reactions, discomfort, and reduced sexual pleasure, particularly among first-time users.
Latex allergy, although relatively uncommon, can cause itching, rashes, and swelling, leading to discomfort and discouraging consistent use.

In addition to physical effects, some men report psychological challenges tied to condom use. According to a survey conducted by a local health NGO, a number of respondents admitted to experiencing anxiety or reduced arousal when using condoms. Others expressed embarrassment when purchasing or discussing condoms with partners, contributing to inconsistent or incorrect usage. Experts warn that these factors may lower overall condom effectiveness and increase the risk of STIs and unwanted pregnancies.

Health practitioners are calling for increased public education on proper condom use, as well as greater availability of alternative materials like polyurethane or polyisoprene for those with latex sensitivities. Here is the view of a condom user.
“We need to address both the physical and emotional barriers men face,” said Dr. Kwesi Ofori, a sexual health specialist. “Only then can we ensure that condom use remains a safe, acceptable, and accessible option for everyone.”
